College Art Association Names David Raizman Interim Executive Director

NEW YORK—David Raizman has been appointed interim executive director of the College Art Association (CAA). Raizman has served as treasurer of the organization since October 2018. He will assume his new responsibilities on July 1, when the CAA’s current director, Hunter O’Hanian, steps down, and remain at the helm until new leadership is hired.

“As a board member I’ve enjoyed seeing how CAA serves its broader membership to meet needs and challenges in academe and the arts,” Raizman said. “As interim executive director I look forward to learning more about the organization and the staff and facilitating the good work they do. I also look forward to continuing the work of Hunter O’Hanian, who created an environment of diversity and inclusion and shifted the direction of CAA toward these important ideas.”

Raizman is a distinguished university professor emeritus of art and art history at the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He is also the author of History of Modern Design (London, Laurence King and New Jersey, Pearson, 2010) and Reading Graphic Design: Image, Text, Context, which will be published in 2020. He earned his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, and has previoulsy served as treasurer of the International Center of Medieval Art, which is headquartered at the Cloisters, the branch museum of the Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated to the art and architecture of medieval Europe.

The CAA also recently announced five new board appointments: Alice Ming Wai Jim, vice president for external relations; Melissa Potter, vice president for annual conference & programs; Peter Lukehart, vice president for publications, Audrey G. Bennett, vice president for diversity and inclusion, and Colin Blakely, secretary.
