Central Academy of Fine Arts and Rhizome Partner on First China-Based Seven on Seven Conference

BEIJING, CHINA—Rhizome, the New York-based digital art platform affiliated with the New Museum, has partnered with the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing to present the first of its Seven on Seven conferences in China. Since 2010, the Seven on Seven conference has paired artists and other cultural producers with technologists to develop projects through short-term, one-on-one collaborations.

“We are thrilled to have found a visionary partner in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, which has worked with us to adapt Seven on Seven for Beijing, bringing established collaborations to China and uncovering the future of art and tech through local research,” Rhizome executive director Zachary Kaplan said.

The conference will be held Tuesday, November 20, as a part of the weeklong Education, Arts, Science and Technology (EAST) festival, directed by Qiu Zhijie, professor and dean of the School of Experimental Arts at CAFA. Seven on Seven Beijing will focus on the fields of augmented reality, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and liquid metal technology. Participants were selected by Kaplan and CAFA faculty Baoyung Chen.

Qiu Zhijie, said, “With Rhizome and the New Museum, we want to build on Seven on Seven’s past success and creat an entirely new mode of art-tech production that bring local art and tech communities to a more global context. I sincerely invite friends and colleagues to join us for Seven on Seven Beijing, this year’s EAST conference and beyond.”
