University of Arizona Museum of Art Names Meg Hagyard Interim Director

TUCSON, ARIZONA—Meg Hagyard has been appointed interim director of the University of Arizona Museum of Art, following W. James Burns’s July 30 resignation. Hagyard was previously involved with UAMA and the Center for Creative Photography as senior director of external relations for the University of Arizona’s Office of Research, Discovery, and Innovation, in which she organized fundraising drives and community partnerships and advocated for funding at the museum at local, state, and national levels. Hagyard will lead UAMA’s reaccreditation process with the American Alliance of Museums.

Hagyard is a graduate of the University of Arizona School of Art and has previously worked with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson and the Tucson Children’s Museum. Of her appointment as interim director, she said, “I am so pleased and honored to have the opportunity to work in this new capacity with the talented and committed staff, volunteers, and supporters of the University of Arizona Museum of Art.”

University of Arizona vice president for Arts, Culture, and Society R. Brooks Jeffery said, “Meg’s appointment as interim director of UAMA is a natural extension of the tremendous leadership she has shown in external relations with the museums over the past year. Her broad network in the Tucson arts community will be a tremendous asset as she helps us define the next chapter of leadership at UAMA.”
