Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig

The Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) – Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges of art in Europe. The Academy has already been providing art and design education at the highest level for more than 250 years. Today, 600 students are majoring in "Book Arts/Graphic Design", "Painting/Fine Art Graphics", "Photography" and "Media Art".

In 2009 the new postgraduate study programme "Cultures of the Curatorial" started. This program is combining application-oriented research practice with academic reflection. It is oriented towards people with different disciplinary and professional backgrounds: in the arts – visual arts, dance, theatre, film and music – as well as in cultural mediation, in the humanities, social and natural sciences. The Curatorial is understood as a practice which goes decisively beyond the making of exhibitions and has emerged as a genuine method of generating, mediating and reflecting experience and knowledge.

The academy presents its work to the public in exhibitions, events and publications – be it at the Academy’s own gallery or at one of its many national and international partner institutions.
