J. S. G. Boggs: Currency Artist

From Our Shifting Ground Is Written in the Cloud

James Stephen George Boggs was an American artist known for his hand-drawn banknotes that he used to perform everyday transactions. He was arrested on counterfeiting charges on multiple occasions in multiple countries but acquitted each time.

Boggs’s first arrest for counterfeiting was in London in 1986 at his exhibition “Money” at the Young Unknowns Gallery. This short and obscure news report shows Boggs celebrating his acquittal and the return of his artwork to the exhibition.
