The BA Camera Arts offers an education that is geared to the technological and social conditions of photographic image production in a networked world of images. Experiments with photographic and post-photographic devices and image practices, including the moving image, are in the foreground.

As of December 1, 2022 or by agreement, we are looking for you as a Lecturer (New) Documentary Photography BA Camera Arts (30–40 percent).

Your tasks
As a lecturer in “(New) Documentary Photography” in the BA Camera Arts programme, you will teach students about the
development, design and reflection of visual narratives, including documentary as well as explicitly new documentary
strategies that have emerged over the last two decades as a result of the extensive changes in the medium of photography.

You are combining your enthusiasm for both historical and contemporary developments in image production with a well-founded critical attitude and are developing future-oriented didactic ideas that motivate students to integrate them constructively and reflectively into their work.

In particular, your tasks include:
–Teaching the basics of photographic image production and linking them to narratives as well as new documentary strategies.
–Conception of documentary and photojournalistic works in analogue and digital spaces, both in the context of editorial as well  as curatorial projects.
–Teaching editorial and communicative skills in dealing with the medium of photography.
–Supervision of photographic projects by BA students.
–Development of innovative research approaches and experiments on the use of the photographic image and post-photographic devices in the age of digital information.

Your profile
–You have a Master’s degree in photography and are bringing professional experience as well as extensive expertise in editorial photography and new documentary strategies. A PhD is desirable.
–You are successfully active as an artist and critically examine the ambivalences of forms of documentary expression, practices  of image production and image contextualisation as well as conceptualisations and stagings of visual narratives.
–You have a profound knowledge of photographic and post-photographic practices and related media phenomena.
–You are applying photographic as well as transmedia strategies in your own creative work or are very familiar with these applications. In doing so, you understand how to explore creative production contexts and positions in different social contexts for an audience, to make them experienceable and to critically reflect on them.
–You are a communicative, team-tested, highly motivated personality and have extensive networking skills
–You have teaching experience at universities and a certificate in university didactics—or the willingness, to acquire this within the framework of your employment.

We offer you an attractive position as a lecturer and the unique opportunity to work with a highly qualified and committed team to make a significant contribution to the education of our students. For this, diversified modern infrastructure and excellently equipped workshops are at your disposal. There is the possibility of participating in theoretical or practice-based research projects.
