Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Media and Design Technician for The Mason Gross School of the Arts. The Media and Design Tech (listed officially as “Technical Multimedia Production Coordinator”) participates in and supports the department’s technology-driven pedagogy, working in tandem with faculty, staff and students at the graduate and undergraduate level. This staff member oversees the storage, maintenance, lending, installation, purchase and trained use of digital equipment in the context of artmaking and exhibition in an interdisciplinary environment that fosters and integrates a wide range of studio, media and design practices. This position is also responsible for technical demonstrations, event recording, and archiving. The ideal applicant will be extremely comfortable operating a wide variety of media equipment; they will stay abreast of current production methods, so they are able to support changing needs over time.

The Department of Art & Design is home to approximately 400 students across five-degree programs which include the first interdisciplinary Visual Arts MFA in the country, and a recently launched MFA in Design. Embedded within a Research One, Public University, we seek to offer an art education that is affordable and accessible, while cultivating a diverse, inclusive community that values visual literacy, critical dialogue, and experimentation.

Mason Gross School of the Arts is the flagship public arts conservatory of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, a Big Ten research university serving more than 65,000 students, the nation’s eighth-oldest institution of higher learning, and a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. Mason Gross is a community of artists—dancers, filmmakers, musicians, theater artists, and visual artists and designers—who study, teach, create, perform, and exhibit. The mission of the school is to nurture creative talent and instill the insights and skills that future generations of arts professionals need to contribute to the creative and scholarly world. The school offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in art & design, dance, filmmaking, music, and theater. In addition to its professional arts training programs, Mason Gross provides the larger community the opportunity to embrace the creative arts through the activities of its divisions: Rutgers Arts Online and Extension Division.

Art & Design encourages applications from underrepresented groups in the field, including but not limited to technicians, artists and programmers of color, individuals of diverse gender identities and expressions, those with disabilities, and those with non-traditional and exceptional pathways to the arts.

This application portal is open until Saturday, June 4, 2022. Link to the full posting, with more information and how to apply at jobs.rutgers.edu/postings/162301.
