Transform your world by joining our Postgraduate community and studying MA Fine Art at the University of Plymouth.

Why Plymouth?
“The University has helped to introduce me to a broad range of contemporary fine art practice and developed in me a sound understanding of the interaction between materials, processes and ideas.“ —Sue, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice (which is now called MA Fine Art)

– We support students’ individual interests in collective studio-centred environments.
– We create opportunities for students to engage with creative industries and practitioners throughout their studies.
– We will support you to start up your own individual and/or collective brand.
– We have a state of the art digital fabrication suite, printmaking, wood and metal workshops, this is in addition to sophisticated and specialist software on-site and off-site (at the Royal William Yard) found at our studio spaces.
– Through our staff’s active role within the city’s creative industries, we facilitate co-curation and co-design opportunities of large-scale exhibitions and design work with local designers and architecture practices as well as local art agencies, such as Plymouth Arts Centre, KARST, Theatre Royal Plymouth, the Barbican Theatre and Royal William Yard.
– We were the first university in the world to have been awarded the Social Enterprise Mark, the sole independent accreditation for organisations that put people and the planet alongside profit.

“The facilities are sensational and are constantly being renewed and updated.” —Anna, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice

Join our postgraduate community and change direction.
“I never felt like an outsider—even though I wasn’t the classic twenty-something student. There was such a rich diversity of students and needs at Plymouth.” —Rebecca, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice

Explore and take risks. Push the boundaries. Learn traditional and cutting-edge ways of working.
"Studying at Plymouth helped me enormously, the open and creative nature of the MA allowed me to experiment with multiple practices without any hesitation." —Anna, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice

Ask important questions of the world around us.
“My tutors encouraged me to be ambitious and adventurous in my work and this culminated in a project that explored the mark-making possibilities of my power wheelchair. By painting wheelchair traces through the city, joining the two fine art sites for the Degree Show, we opened up a debate about what does and doesn't constitute art.” —Sue, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice

Be a leader and an innovator. Inspire generations to come with your work.
“My work is part of a selection of 12 international artists, a life-sized embroidery depicting the landscape, through stitched contour lines, of the surface of a pregnant woman. The piece hopes to communicate that microbes are not just germs, blemishes on our skin, but rather embellishments!” —Rebecca, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice

Enhance your employability and increase your earning potential.
“It made me step up to the rigours of how you have to talk about your work, as well as giving me the tools to write a proposal and contextualise my work. I thought the course was exceptionally good.” —Amy, graduate of MA Contemporary Art Practice
