Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)’s Low-Residency MFA in Studio Art program is currently accepting applications for study beginning summer 2021. A research-oriented, multidisciplinary program, MICA Low-Residency MFA gives experienced artists the ability to integrate critical theory with studio practice and develop a professional body of work—along with the flexibility to maintain ongoing careers. Independent work in the studio is the focus of the program, and exploration and experimentation are encouraged.

Students participate in four six-week summer residencies in MICA’s Fred Lazarus IV Center for Graduate Studies in Baltimore, complemented by remote studio practice during the fall and spring. Areas of concentration include the full range of contemporary art practices; students may focus on one specific medium or work across various media. Although the program promotes interdisciplinary approaches to art production, students are encouraged to work in ways most appropriate to their individual research.

To learn more about the program, meet alumni, and view student thesis work, join the Low-Residency MFA class of 2020 for a virtual reception at VisArts on April 9 at 5pm EDT.

Applications to join this summer’s cohort will be accepted on a rolling basis. Apply now.
