The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Schools of Visual Arts are looking for a dedicated and highly-qualified artist to take on a professorship at the School of Media Arts, beginning on September 1, 2020.

The School of Media Arts constitutes the MFA programme’s specialised programme in the field of media art and is one of the academy’s four international MFA programmes.

The School of Media Arts has approximately 27 students attending the three-year MFA programme. The School is housed at Charlottenborg, where the laboratories associated with media arts are located.

About the position
The professor of the School of Media Arts holds overall responsibility for the supervision of the school’s programme, for ensuring the quality of the teaching provided and for the artistic teaching and research work undertaken there. The professor holds responsibility for the artistic/academic management of the School and is responsible for outlining and directing the professional profile of the field of media arts in collaboration with students and associate professors.

The professor must, in collaboration with the Rector and the other professors, contribute to the strategic development of the Schools of Visual Arts’ profile, teaching formats and overall goals. The professor will take part in the joint admission process undertaken when admitting new students.

Duties and responsibilities
The professor’s duties at the School of Media Arts consist primarily in teaching, tutorials/supervision of student projects, development and in-house coordination. The professor is responsible for the overall planning of the School of Media Arts’ programme. During such planning, the professor is expected to include the other MFA schools, the relevant laboratories and the Institute for Art, Writing and Research.

While planning the programme, the professor is also expected to take into account the students’ various practices and to be able to apply and nurture a range of diverse perspectives on media art and related practices, both artistically and thematically. Furthermore, the teaching should be based on firm general knowledge of contemporary media art, contemporary art in general, the history of media art, artistic research and theory, and the techniques of media art.

Qualifications
The following requirements must be met in order to be considered for the position:
–The applicant must have established a comprehensive artistic practice and a professional career of international scope. The successful candidate must be an acclaimed artist operating at the highest level within the field of contemporary art, having exhibited their work at established art institutions, galleries and similar.
–The applicant must have in-depth knowledge of contemporary art, including media art.
–The applicant must have completed art studies at MFA level or equivalent studies.
–The applicant must have well-founded teaching experience from similar programmes and be able to supervise and guide students on an individual basis.
–The applicant must be able to teach on the basis of a contemporary understanding of media arts as well as firm theoretical, historical and technical knowledge.
–The applicant must engage in artistic research work.

Furthermore, it is assumed that the applicant:
–Demonstrates understanding and empathy for individuals in education situations.
–Has excellent communication and collaboration skills, both in-house and externally.
–Has high-level, professional English proficiency

The professorship is a fixed-term position, set at six years. The weekly working hours are set at 30 hours a week.
