The Department of Fine Art at the Braunschweig University of Art is currently seeking to fill the following professorship, beginning October 1, 2019: University Professor in Photography, Salary scale W3

The successful candidate will be given permanent civil servant status or permanent employment.

The Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig (Braunschweig University of Art) is an internationally oriented art university with the right to grant doctorates and higher degrees. With approximately 1000 students in fine art, art pedagogy, design, art history and aesthetics, as well as media studies, the HBK is one of the largest art academies in Germany. Excellently equipped workshops and laboratories provide ideal working conditions for intellectual and artistic production.

Requirements
The Department of Fine Art is looking for an artist with an outstanding profile in the field of photography as a medium of fine art, an artist whose work constitutes a substantial contribution to the field of contemporary art. Within this context, an advanced relationship to the creative potential of both analog and digital media is sought. 

Responsibilities will include teaching fine art photography, especially to fine art students in the “Diplom” and “Meisterschüler” programmes, as well as to students in the fine art programme for teacher education. Co-supervision of the university’s photography laboratories will be an additional job responsibility. Eligibility and willingness to work in the university’s various committees and administrative procedures is required. The ongoing development of the appointed candidate’s artistic practice in the context of the university is expected and encouraged. Suitability and willingness to work within the university’s various structures of self-governance is expected, as is adequate written and spoken knowledge of the German language.

–university degree
–pedagogic and didactic qualifications as proven through practical experience
–exceptional competence in artistic practice as well as considerable artistic achievement

The Braunschweig University of Art aims to increase the proportion of female artists teaching at the school: Female artists are as such expressly invited to apply.

In the case of equal qualification, competence and professional achievement, preference will be given to female applicants, as per the relevant regulations.
