Banff Artist in Residence Summer 2018

Seek retreat from the everyday and engage in an international community of artists from all disciplines for an intense period of creativity that defines summer at Banff Centre. Outdoor School
July 23–August 24
Application deadline: March 28
The Outdoor School residency will bring together visual artists with an interest in outdoor culture and recreation, field naturalist practices, experiential modes of learning, ecology, and the environment. Participants will join in hands-on workshops, engage with and learn from members of the community, and explore the connections between art, outdoor culture and the landscape.

Beyond Anthropocene: Banff Research in Culture (BRiC)
July 30–August 10
Application deadline: April 4
Successful societies learn to live sustainably by adapting to their environment and naturally imposed resource constraints. The Beyond Anthropocene program asks how adaptation, transition, and revolution might prescribe our future realities. Together we will investigate the capacities and limits of our imaginations to conceive of what lies beyond the climate crisis. The residency is for artists, cultural theorists, researchers, scientists, architects, and writers.
