The Department of Art and Design invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Design History at the rank of assistant or associate professor, and a tenure-track position in Interdisciplinary Art at the rank of assistant or associate professor. These new hires are part of a new initiative to integrate cognate studies in the theory and history and the art and design disciplines in the department’s new curricular roll out, including interdisciplinary graduate courses to be part of a new MFA program in Creative Innovation and Technology.

Each position requires that the incumbent advise students; engage in student recruitment; communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, and staff; engage industry partners; actively participate in faculty governance and service; establish a scholarship program in an area of specialization that contributes to the reputation of the department, the College of the Arts and the University.

Professor of Interdisciplinary Art
Individuals who can demonstrate an active interdisciplinary practice in media art and/or a sculptural focus with extensive digital experience are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will lead the BA program in Visual Arts and teach courses in interdisciplinary studio practice. In that capacity, the incumbent will ensure academic excellence and innovation in visual art education, coordinate the curriculum and faculty of the program, provide oversight for practice initiatives in visual art education, and promote partnerships that support student learning, faculty practice, and research initiatives in interdisciplinary visual arts. Qualified applicants must have a terminal US degree such as an MFA (or an equivalent non-US degree) in visual arts or a related field; a record of creative and/or scholarly work (i.e., professional design record, exhibitions, publications, presentations); and teaching experience at the college level. Of especial interest is a strong background in interdisciplinary contemporary art with fluency in interdisciplinary intellectual and aesthetic ideas as well as a history of professional excellence as evidenced by an exceptional portfolio.

Professor of Design History
We seek to recruit a faculty member fluent in modern and contemporary design history and in interdisciplinary intellectual and aesthetic ideas. The successful candidate will teach courses in the history of design, contemporary issues in art and design, visual culture, and other elective courses as needed. Applicants shall have earned a PhD, or an anticipate PhD completion by August 1, 2018, in the field of modern (post-WWII) and contemporary design history; a record of scholarly work (i.e., exhibitions, publications, presentations); and teaching experience at the college level. Candidates must possess a history of professional excellence as a scholar and teacher.
