The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation is now accepting applications for The Networked Curator, a digital literacy workshop for curators co-presented with the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (RRCHNM), George Mason University (GMU). Held August 6 to 8, 2017 for 12 curators, the program will engage participants in working, sharing and project planning online, digital research management, and digital storytelling and publishing. Through interactive sessions, attendees will gain an expanded digital literacy and vocabulary, a better understanding of what is possible on the web and in digital environments, and increased knowledge of best practices for publishing research online. Applications are open through March 23, 2017, noon EST.

Successful applicants will have access to a dedicated program website with curricula, readings and resources, as well as access to a program participant and alumni forum. Attendees will also be provided with a travel stipend, accommodation stipend, a per diem, as well as breakfast and lunch for each day of the program. The program aims to not only enable curators to better understand what is possible on the web and in digital environments, but also generate a community of curators to collaborate, share and connect over tools, advancements, and best practices in the digital sphere.

Three days of exercises and discussions will be crafted to help participants feel more comfortable testing and playing with different digital platforms and tools. Participants will be expected to review a collection of readings and digital projects related to the daily discussions in advance, and will participate in morning and afternoon sessions and discussions. A second workshop covering the same topics will be held at the Getty Center early in 2018.

Applications are open to all who qualify for AAMC membership, and are due to the AAMC Foundation no later than March 23, 2017, noon EST. Application details may be viewed on AAMC’s website.

AAMC & AAMC Foundation
Founded in 2001, and now including over 1,300 members from over 400 institutions around the globe, we are a strong leader for curators in non-profit settings. The mission of the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) is to support and promote the work of visual art curators in the non-profit sector by creating opportunities for networking, collaboration, professional development, and advancement. In support of these aims, the AAMC Foundation seeks to heighten public understanding of the curator’s non-profit role through programs, discussions, and opportunities open to the public and our members. By providing a dynamic forum in which to share ideas and encourage professional development, the Association of Art Museum Curators continues to grow, increasing its visibility and importance to the larger arts community. At the heart of all we do is our goal to celebrate, advance, and advocate for the non-profit curator. Our Strategic Plan’s key facets are diversity and advocacy, which now have devoted Task Forces within our organization, with the goals of furthering opportunities for all curators through creating inclusive programming, seeking to define and expand the definition of curator, promoting the curatorial role within our communities, and supporting the highest standards of curatorial ethics and professional behavior.
