ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSORSHIP OF VISUAL ART AT TROMSØ UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

The appointee must be an artist with a significant production within visual arts complying with the Academy’s profile and are presumed to be able to
– contribute to realizing the established profile of the Academy of Fine Art
– realize the ideas that form the basis for the education programme in contemporary art as they have been formulated in the curriculum
– initiate, stimulate, and in other ways contribute to academic development at the academy in accordance with strategies, goals, and other decisions made by the governing bodies of the college, including:
– the development and evaluation of the academy according to the intentions and objectives of the profile and the curricula
– the preparation, evaluation, and revision of curricula according to relevant guidelines
– contributing to the quality of information, evaluation, and control in the programme
– contributing to the planning of exams and other tests
– taking initial responsibility in case of complaints
– contribution to communication and cooperation in national and international networks.

The application must contain a satisfactory account of

1. The ideas behind the applicant’s own artistic practice and the principal lines of the applicant’s artistic production seen in the light of the contemporary art scene.
2. The applicant’s ideas and visions of realizing the established profile, including how the applicant’s artistic practice and the education can have a stimulating effect on each other.
3. The applicant’s pedagogical qualifications.

A CV and a list of enclosed documentation must be enclosed. Documentation may take the form of photos/slides of own works/projects, videos, articles, publications etc. It is stressed that the expert selection committee, who will evaluate the applicants, shall only consider the written application and the enclosed documentation.

Appointment is according to Government Order FOR 2006-02-09 nr 129 which determines the requirements for professorship as follows:

The applicant must hold a higher degree from a university, college, or equivalent, and
(1) A scientific level that meets established international or national standards
or
(2) Extensive experience in artistic activity at the highest level according to international standards, as well as relevant breadth and depth in the subject or the discipline at the highest level
and
(3) Documented, relevant practical pedagogical competence based on education, or on experience with teaching and academic guidance.

The applicants will be evaluated by an expert committee based on the submitted materials. The main emphasis of the expert evaluation will be on the submitted documentation of artistic production and on teaching qualifications. Experience from popularization/presentation, academic policy-making, and academic administration, as well as other documented qualifications relevant to the position, will also be emphasized. The position requires a person with good cooperation skills who is creative, systematic and ability to make contact.

The appointee must comply with the laws and agreements that are relevant to the position at any time. The college practices equal opportunity in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. A full time professor is paid a pensionable salary of NOK 474 200 — 519 500. Potential candidates must expect to be called in for trial teaching and interviews.
