The Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) and Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC) have collaborated to announce a new jointly delivered MFA in Applied Craft and Design utilizing each college’s distinct curriculum, faculty expertise and facilities. This unique MFA is a 60-credit, two-year program that merges the highest level of craft with design practice and entrepreneurial strategies. Built on a global resurgence of craft appreciation and design focused on improving the human condition, the program is for students seeking a personalized pathway to craft/design ventures and other meaningful creative work and occupations.

PNCA and OCAC are seeking a highly qualified individual to chair and administer the MFA in Applied Craft and Design program. The successful candidate will bring an articulated understanding of the resurgence of craft and the diverse opportunities that are created when craft skills are paired with design knowledge. The candidate will have strong connections to local, national and international creative individuals, practices and companies, and the desire to create an internationally competitive program. More information on the joint program can be found at: http://www.pnca.edu/programs/mfa/appliedcraft.php

The Chair’s primary responsibility will be to ready the program for its first class in fall 2009. The Chair will work closely with the faculty and administration of both institutions to complete this work which will include: developing course syllabi and outcomes, improving library resources, recruiting and selecting students, developing a schedule of visiting artists/scholars/designers, and matching incoming students with qualified mentors.
