The 2009 Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum is the culmination of an intensive two-year program for the artists in the Graduate School of Art:
Stephanie Barenz, Carolyn Dawn Bendel, Jacob Cruzen, Rachel Ann Dennis, Bryan Eaton, Maya Escobar, Meredith Foster, Morgan Gehris, Gina Grafos, Stephen Hoskins, Amelia Jones, Hye Young Kim, Anne Lindberg, Goran Maric, Kelda Martensen, Erica L. Millspaugh, Carianne Noga, Joel Parker, Rebecca C. Potts, Shannon Randol, Elaine Rickels, Michael Kenneth Smith, Dan Solberg, Natalie Toney, Glenn Tramantano, Kathryn Trout, and J. Taylor Wallace.
These students explore ideas beyond the studio where disciplinary boundaries are constantly being redefined and new areas of knowledge and cultural production are emerging. Their work represents tremendous diversity in the exploration of ideas, use of materials, methods of production, and strategies of dissemination. The results are at once tantalizing, poetic, satirical, provocative, and often profound. The Sam Fox School is proud to celebrate their achievements.

About the MFA in Visual Art at the Sam Fox School:
The Graduate School of Art’s program provides the framework for collaboration and both disciplinary-specific and interdisciplinary study. Our students explore multiple mediums and are deeply committed to investigating ideas and methodologies beyond their studios. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to investigate the relationship between thinking and making. Graduate seminars provide opportunities to study theory through the lens of studio practice. The program prepares students to explore ways in which to incite progressive social change, address challenges in the environment, and assume their roles as global citizens.
