Visit the Trajan Column, the Pantheon and the Arch of Titus. Examine the ancient inscriptions on Roman buildings and monuments that have long been a typographic ideal. Above all, take a break from routine. “I loved having that time to just focus on design without the pressures of clients and deadlines.” (Elizabeth Morrow McKenzie, past participant)

Art History in Southern France
June 5 – 18
Discover the art historical splendors of Provence. Visit Roman ruins, medieval hill towns, and the locales where Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh lived and worked. “The perfect coupling of an art history course and group tour.” (Meryl Serouya, past participant)

Art Therapy in Provence: Innovative Techniques for the Professional
June 19 – 26
Set in the medieval walled city of Avignon, this program explores unique studio techniques designed to be adapted to diverse groups. The landscape, light and history encourage creativity and complement the open classroom teaching environment.

NEW: Cinema in Italy
June 20 – July 3
Go on set to meet some of the most prominent film and television artists in Italy, including network television studios Rai Cinema and Media Set, and collaborate with accomplished Italian directors and actors as they work their crafts. Collaborate with accomplished Italian directors and actors in the fabled cities of Milan and Rome.

Painting in Barcelona
June 25 – July 10 or June 25 – July 16
Experience the welcoming Mediterranean city that inspired Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Antonio Tapies, with plenty of free time on weeknights and weekends. “It is difficult to call this experience anything but life changing.” (Jonathan Beer, past participant)

Digital Photography in Shanghai
June 26 – July 17
Shanghai offers an incredible combination of ancient and modern that makes for exciting photographic possibilities. “There’s something ferocious about the color there.” (Abby Robinson, faculty)

NEW: Masters Workshop: Photographic Practices in Provence
July 4 – July 16
The landscapes, marketplaces, ancient architecture, and unique culture of southern France offer incomparable opportunities for location shooting. And then there is Europe’s premier international photography festival, Les Rencontres d’Arles, with its career-making networking opportunities. “You really feel the pulse of photography there. It’s 24/7.” (Elinor Carucci, faculty)
