University of Michigan School of Art & Design: Call for Applications
Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Positions – Deadline: January 5, 2011
Creative Practices in Computational Media

3-D: Nano to Jumbo – A&D is seeking an artist-designer who is a bold thinker with well-developed capabilities in realizing physical work in a wide range of scales. Applicants should have experience with multiple fabrication techniques and materials, utilizing the domains of sculpture, installation, product design, and/or environmental work. A portfolio of conceptually-rich creative work that would expand the scope of faculty capabilities in the School – along with a broad understanding of contemporary practices in art and design, including art-design intersections, histories, theories, and criticism – is expected.

Roman J. Witt Artist in Residence – Deadline: January 10, 2011
The mission of the Roman J. Witt Residency Program is to support the production of new interdisciplinary work with assistance from the A&D community. The program awards up to two residencies per academic year for a visiting artist/designer to work at the school to develop a new work in collaboration with students and faculty. The intersection with A&D may include workshops, critiques, and lectures. A centerpiece of the residency is the open studio, a centrally located studio space that is part of the school’s main gallery where the resident carries out work in a public domain. The residency is expected to culminate in the realization of the proposed work, as well as a presentation that summarizes the process and work accomplished.

MFA Graduate Programs – Deadline: January 1, 2011
A&D’s three-year MFA programs are designed for those students with an active creative practice who also want to engage with fields of knowledge beyond the cultures of art and design. Working within a top research university along a cultural corridor that extends from Toronto to Chicago, MFA students exhibit, curate, teach, perform, network, explore, present, research, and collaborate. They receive full tuition funding, including international travel support, as well as private studios and access to digital and traditional tools. Programs include the MFA in Art & Design, an MFA/MBA dual degree program with the UM Ross School of Business, and an MFA/MSI dual degree program with the UM School of Information.
