The Johnson State College Masters of Fine Arts program, run jointly with the Vermont Studio Center, is an MFA program centered around an annual eight-week Vermont Studio Center studio residency, which provides MFA candidates with intensive 24/7 studio time, the fellowship of peer artists and writers from around the world, and an outstanding Visiting Artist program. This extended residency component, combined with the informed and consistent counsel of full-time Johnson State College faculty, make this MFA program one of the most unique and valuable.

Johnson State College faculty offer MFA candidates guidance before, during, and after each annual residency through studio visits, critiques, seminars, and structured on-going contact when not in residence, creating a rigorous yet flexible three-year program.

Applications for the MFA program are due February 15, 2011 and should be made directly to Johnson State College. What makes this program special?
The Vermont Studio Center residencies in this MFA program allows artists to develop their work through daily hands-on studio practice, in conjuction with the experience and insight of VSC’s Visiting Artists, distinguished artists with diverse perspectives in residence at VSC for a week each to offer critiques and feedback grounded in studio practice.

Who should apply?
Serious working artists interested in developing their body of work, broadening their point of view, and approaching the heart of their practice through the structure of an MFA program are good candidates to be challenged and rewarded by this program, and are encouraged to apply.
