Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in both downtown Zamalek and New Cairo. Among the premier universities in the region, AUC is Middle States accredited; its Engineering programs are accredited by ABET and the Management program is accredited by AACSB. AUC is an English-medium institution; eighty-five percent of the students are Egyptian and the rest include students from nearly ninety countries, principally from the Middle East, Africa and North America. Faculty salary and rank are based on qualifications and professional experience. Job Description:
The Art Program, Performing and Visual Arts Department, at the American University in Cairo is seeking applications for Professor of Practice in Graphic Design to begin Fall 2012.

 

The successful applicant will be required to teach six courses per academic year (3 courses per semester) in practical/technical and conceptual undergraduate courses in Graphic Design, as well as in special topics within the applicant’s expertise. The position also carries administrative responsibilities at the department, school, and university levels. The initial appointment is for two years and maybe extended, after review in five-year terms.

 

Requirements:
MA, MFA or terminal degree in Art, Graphic Design or a closely related discipline is required. The successful candidate will teach all levels of Graphic Design, Arabic Typography, and courses every academic year. Applicants should also have a thorough knowledge in design history, theory, and practice. Experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration and curriculum development is fundamental. Preference will be given to candidates with a five-year experience in the design industry in the Arab world and globally.

 

Evidence of extensive and successful professional practice, including experience in various graphic design media and production environments is required. All applicants must have a solid understanding of the design market in Egypt and the Arab world along with at least three years of successful teaching experience at the university level.
