School of Arts and Design Kassel presents RUNDGANG 2012
Also in July 2012, during documenta 13, there will be an annual exhibition at the School of Art and Design Kassel. This means: four days of exhibitions, films, and performances, as well as cafés, bars, and parties. The studios, departments, and workshops open their doors to give insight into current production. Visitors can walk around in the buildings at the Karlsaue Park and speak with students and teachers.
NOT exklusiv
RUNDGANG 2012 was given the title NOT exklusiv by Prof. Gabriele Franziska Götz and Prof. Bjørn Melhus. This title is not to be understood as a thematically specified guideline, but rather as a general statement: NOT exklusiv questions the self-conception of teaching and creativity as well as the economic situation of students and young professionals, in a time where promising and encouraging freedom often leads to precarious living conditions and self-exploitation, resulting in a lack of freedom. This crisis of exclusive necessity may lead to new ideas and can be the starting point of far-reaching innovations. In the German language, the word NOT refers to misery, crisis or poverty. If the title NOT exklusiv is read in English, the meaning shifts and a part of the School’s identity is expressed to be “not exclusiv(e)” by focusing on the greatest possible openness and migration between disciplines.
General Information
RUNDGANG is an important event at the School of Art and Design Kassel. Students, teachers, and visitors exchange views on the level and quality of work, inspiring, and challenging each other.
This year a short guide has been created. It is presenting an overview of all departments. A catalogue will be available in digital form on www.rundgang-kassel.de—which will be also optimized for mobile devices. In 2012, RUNDGANG offers even more surprises: for the first time there will be a central shop where current and previously produced catalogues, books, DVDs, and other materials will be on sale.
