On 22 January 2013 at 7pm, the concluding presentation by the first scholars of the State of Lower Saxony’s artist advancement programme Braunschweig PROJECTS will be opened.

The exhibition BS PROJECTS: Uncharted at 267 | Quartiere für zeitgenoessische Kunst und Fotografie features works by the sound artists Sandra Volny (Paris/Montréal), Lo Yun Ting (Hong Kong), the duo Natalie Bewernitz and Marek Goldowski (Cologne) as well as the visual artists Karolin Meunier (Berlin), Felipe Cortés (Bogotá), Robert Stark (Munich), Christine de la Garenne (Berlin) and Eiko Grimberg (Berlin). With its range from sound installations with original Schimmel pianos to an expansive scrap sculpture, the show encompasses the wide variety of positions from the fields of sound art and the visual arts.

The participating artists are the first scholars of the Braunschweig PROJECTS artist advancement programme endowed since 2011 by the Lower Saxon Ministry for Science and Culture and the Braunschweig University of Art. “The grants enable a degree of artistic freedom unfettered by material constraints. This makes it possible for the artists to devote themselves entirely to their creativity and the unfolding of their talent. This scholarship programme furthermore supports a lively exchange and promotes learning from each other,” says Professor Dr. Johanna Wanka, Lower Saxon Minister for Science and Culture.

A total of eight international talents from the fields of sound art and the visual arts are supported with grants from the advancement programme. This encompasses a monthly stipend of 1,250 Euros, a project-oriented allowance for material and travel costs in addition to an apartment and studio in Braunschweig. Over and above this, the programme enables a broad networking of institutions and partners in Europe and America. The scholars are furthermore supervised by mentors at the Braunschweig University of Art.

The Braunschweig University of Art is an internationally oriented art university with the right to grant doctorates and the right of habilitation. With 1,200 students in Fine Arts, Design as well as Aesthetics & Art History and Media Studies, the Braunschweig University of Art is one of the largest art academies in Europe. Excellently equipped studios and laboratories provide the ideal working conditions for all intellectual, creative and artistic processes.
