The Program
Christie’s Education’s new Master of Arts in Global Contemporary Art is a full-time graduate program launching in the 2014–2015 academic year. It provides an in-depth study of contemporary art within a global context since 1980. The degree is designed for those who possess an art history degree or relevant professional experience and now wish to concentrate on the complexities of today’s global art marketplace.

Students have the unique opportunity to engage with contemporary art within a global framework through direct examination of current artistic and conceptual thinking as well as become closely acquainted with the commercial goals of today’s art professionals. A close understanding of contemporary conservation, market and patronage issues and the challenges that new forms of artistic production pose to traditional art structures is provided. In addition, students obtain practical skills through the examination of legal, tax, and insurance issues as well as studying the various means of measuring value in art. Upon completion of the program, the student will gain a comprehensive understanding of the central role of art within the dynamics of globalization and the skills needed to secure a career in the international art world.

The 15-month program includes a 45-day internship. All students in this program participate in weekly field study and exhibition visits. Two field study trips in Europe, Asia, or the Americas are a key element of this program that keeps pace with the fast-moving art world.
