Five Philadelphia women who are leading interior designers and major forces in the field will bring their joint expertise to a panel titled “Defining A Profession: Interior Design in Philadelphia” at Moore College of Art & Design as part of DesignPhiladelphia. This design forum event presented by Graduate Studies at Moore’s MFA in Interior Design will be moderated by faculty member James Miller and feature Moore alumnae Karen Daroff and Marguerite Rodgers, Floss Barber, Barbara Eberlein and Kimberly Williams. Following a question and answer session, the audience is invited to a reception with the panelists.

Karen Daroff, a 1970 alumna of Moore College of Art & Design and recipient of numerous awards, is the President and Principal in Charge of Design at Daroff Design Inc. The Philadelphia-based firm, together with its Shanghai and New York City offices, is celebrating its 41st year in business in 2014. Daroff Design has a staff of 35 and works with Marriott, Mohican Casino, MGM Casino, NBC Universal, as well as many other companies throughout the world, and is designing the three-story café in the new Norman Foster/Gensler Tower for Comcast.

Marguerite Rodgers, a 1979 alumna of Moore College of Art & Design, is the Creative Director for Marguerite Rodgers Ltd., which was established in 1980. The company has been honored for its work on behalf of private homeowners and commercial clients, praised for its surpassing attention to composition and detail, and relied upon to transform ordinary spaces into compelling interiors. The firm’s ten professionals bring a sense of the possible to every project.

Floss Barber currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Floss Barber, Inc., which she founded in 1986 with a commitment to design excellence. As founder and principal, she has developed a global mindset that has shaped the studio into a nationally recognized Interior Design Studio. Barber is highly regarded as a public speaker, a juror and keynote speaker on design. She has lectured at universities, for professional organizations and institutions across the US and around the world.

Barbara Eberlein, ASID, President and Creative Director of Eberlein Design Consultants Ltd., was formally educated in the classics, history and art, an education that has served her lifelong passion for design well. Her firm, founded in 1984, has built its award-winning reputation for elegant and unique interiors through one simple approach: listening. Eberlein is a sought-after lecturer on classical architecture and design, equally respected for her scholarly mastery and boundless enthusiasm for the field.

Kimberly Williams is currently Principal, National Director of Interiors, and Division Vice President of Jacobs. She started the firm’s Interiors Studio 20 years ago and it has become one the largest, most prestigious interiors practices in the country, with a diversified Fortune 500 client base. Williams has received numerous awards for her accomplishments in the industry, including Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business Award and the Philadelphia Business Journal’s prestigious Women of Distinction award and its 40 Under 40 honor.
