The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague is an academy for Fine Arts and Design and offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, a postgraduate course, a PhD programme (in close cooperation with the Leiden University) as well as preparatory courses. The Royal Academy of Art trains students to become self-aware artists and designers, able to make a meaningful contribution to their discipline and to society by means of their passion, deep expertise and experimental approach. We offer four Master programmes:

ArtScience (two years/full-time)
“You think like a scientist with the heart of a poet and the eyes of a painter”
– György Kepes

The ArtScience Interfaculty is an interdisciplinary art programme between the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. The Master’s programme is a unique and practice-based, creative programme in which the dialogue between the creative arts and the sciences plays an essential role. More info.

Artistic Research (two years/full-time)
This Master’s programme is a collaboration between the Royal Academy of Art and The Royal Conservatoire. It thoroughly examines the question whether artists produce knowledge. From the outset you choose to specifically focus on your own artistic practice and indulge yourself in research groups, and an extensive guest programme featuring studio visits, lectures and workshops. Possible results include more theoretical nourishment, greater dedication or an inspiring collaboration with artists and musicians from other disciplines. More info.

Interior Architecture (INSIDE) (two years/full-time)
INSIDE is an internationally oriented two-year full-time Master’s programme that takes an interdisciplinary approach to the field of interior architecture. INSIDE sees major changes in the urban domain such as privatisation, economisation and ever-increasing control. Consequently, the significance of public space is drastically changing: outside spaces are becoming interiors. You will learn to design for the changing world. You will not be designing finished products; instead you will learn to think from the circular economy perspective, not only by conducting research and mastering design processes but also in accordance with our “learning by doing” motto. More info.

Type and Media (one year/full-time)
In this Master’s programme you will expand your existing knowledge of type design and typography. You will work very closely in a small group of no more than 12 international students under the expert supervision of enthusiastic (guest) lecturers. You will explore every aspect of type design in a variety of assignments. Contrast, rhythm, proportion and weight will be discussed, as well as the technical aspects of creating fonts and the digital design process. Discussions with leading type-designers help deepen the theoretical understanding. More info.
