Situated within the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego, Department of Visual Arts.

UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity among its faculty, staff, and student body.

The Visual Arts Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in time-based media practices by artists whose work demonstrates a versatility in combining moving images or still images with sound, engage with the expanding field of artistic practices and situations, and have been showcased in venues ranging from recognized galleries to film festivals, as well as non-traditional venues with diverse audiences.

We seek applicants with a conceptually driven artistic practice that demonstrates a foundational knowledge of film and photographic techniques and experimental film traditions, as well as an active engagement with continually evolving digital technologies. Preferences will be given to artists whose interests include an integrative approach to media, particularly in relation to installation and studio practices.

Teaching responsibilities will be primarily with the Media major and minors of the Visual Arts department, whose curriculum is constantly adjusting to evolving production tools and in its new incarnation starting in September 2016 is aiming at creating collaborations with other majors in the department and in other programs. Courses will include intermediate and advanced undergraduate production techniques classes, and also might include lower- or upper-division lecture courses, undergraduate critique and project courses, and graduate seminars in theory, critique, projects and/or production.

The Media program is housed in the Visual Arts Department which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Art History, Theory and Criticism, including a PhD in Art History with a concentration in Art Practice, as well as undergraduate programs in Studio, Media, Interdisciplinary Computing, and Speculative Design. Faculty are expected to advise, work with, and serve on the committees of MFA students in all areas, as well as to work with and serve on the committees of PhD students.

Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on UC pay scales.
