Master of Fine Art Programme
This internationally recognized programme of study offers students from around the world an extraordinary opportunity to analyse their studio practice in depth, and to modify, develop, and secure it accordingly. Established in 1989, the MFA has developed and maintained a reputation for producing artists and art world professionals who operate at the highest levels. Whilst studio practice lies at the heart of the curriculum, students also engage with a range of additional disciplines and pursuits that allow them to reflect upon the wider cultural, historical, and intellectual contexts of their work. Students are also eligible to apply for an Elective course in Fine Art Studio Teaching.

Throughout the last 25 years the City of Glasgow has developed a formidable reputation in the contemporary art world, and MFA students, graduates, and staff have always been at the heart of this dynamic and energetic cultural activity.

For information regarding any aspect of the course, please contact either John Calcutt, MFA Programme Leader, or Emily Parry, Programme Administrator: T +44 (0) 141 353 4759 / [email protected] or T +44 (0) 141 353 4798 / [email protected]

Master of Letters in Fine Art Practice
The Master of Letters (MLitt) in Fine Art Practice is a studio-based, 12-month taught postgraduate programme that attracts applicants from across the world. The programme has grown significantly since it was established in 2011, and graduates have went on to have a considerable impact on the Glasgow art scene, as well as exhibit nationally and internationally. This intensive programme has five specialist pathways: Painting, Photography and the Moving Image, Print Media, Drawing, and Sculpture. The programme is centred on practice and is intended to provide opportunities for students to pursue in-depth subject specific study at postgraduate level.

Applicants would normally have completed a BA degree but applicants with experience in other areas may also be considered.

Master of Letters in Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art)
This 12-month MLitt programme, jointly run by The Glasgow School of Art and the University of Glasgow, is embedded within the city, drawing on its community of artists, gallery professionals, institutions, and international connections. Taught by dedicated staff and guest faculty, including curators and artists, the programme strikes a balance between discourse and practice. Working in different contexts, including a dedicated studio space at the heart of the School of Fine Art, participants develop their individual interests, hone their thinking and acquire practical professional skills whilst initiating and producing real exhibitions, projects and events.

Five fully funded SFC places are available to Scots/EU students on this programme and will be awarded through interview.

Master of Research in Creative Practices
On the Master of Research in Creative Practices programme, academic enquiry and the many forms of creative expression are examined in the wider context of social, historical, cultural, and theoretical discourse. The MRes serves as a stand-alone masters qualification or as pre- doctorate training in research methodology. A rich mix of intellectual traditions and themes in critical, historical, and philosophical enquiry are covered as well as cultures of art, design, archiving, and architecture. In addition to this we invite experts from creative industries, and site some sessions in museums in and around the city. The M.Res is open to graduates of arts and humanities and other backgrounds as well as visual art and design.
