The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) announces five full-time faculty positions in the undergraduate division. Ideal candidates will be distinguished professionals who promote practice-based learning, new theoretical frameworks for the creative fields, and commitment to equity and diversity in teaching, service, leadership and practice.

MICA students, faculty and staff are recognized internationally for imagination and significant cultural contributions to the Baltimore community and the world.

Long renowned for its Fine Arts curriculum and top-rated Graphic Design department, MICA is expanding its undergraduate design offerings with new degrees in Product Design and Game Design, expected to launch next year.

Open faculty positions:
Chair and Full-Time Faculty, Product Design
This is a position of leadership that will be instrumental in the full definition of MICA’s new undergraduate Product Design program and its integration into our diverse creative community. A deep criticality will guide the program, acknowledging that existing industries, new manufacturing processes, and emerging environmental, economic and social paradigms require new ways of thinking and making. The program will be highly interdisciplinary and collaborative in its nature, including emphases on entrepreneurship and work with external partners.

Full-Time Faculty, Game Design
In anticipation of a new BFA in Game Design, MICA is searching for a versatile and experienced teacher and practitioner to join the Interactive Arts department as a Gaming specialist. The successful candidate will be capable of teaching at all levels of the undergraduate program, be proficient in traditional techniques, and have a broad understanding of new approaches in the field of Game Design. Experience teaching physical computing, smart textiles, or other related media is also highly valued.

Full-Time Faculty, Graphic Design
The Graphic Design program’s well-rounded curriculum encourages students to explore traditional and emerging media across disciplines of art and design. The ideal candidate will demonstrate design excellence, engage innovative teaching methods and inspire students to become design leaders. Candidates with experience teaching typography or interaction design are especially encouraged to apply. We seek a leader, a passionate student mentor, and a generous colleague who can further develop our design community.

Full-Time Faculty, Drawing
MICA’s Drawing department represents a broad range of approaches, from new media to traditional observation; non-western to western; fundamental to experimental; illustration to fine art. We are seeking a colleague with expertise in a range of drawing modalities including design drawing and traditional and digital methods that support both 2D and 3D curricula. The position will have a locus in the Drawing department, but will also teach one or more courses in Foundation or other departments.

Full-Time Faculty, Art History, Theory, and Criticism
The department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism seeks an Art Historian whose teaching and research address the global dimensions of the early modern period (16–18th centuries). Potential areas of geographic concentration might include the Americas, Southeast and East Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and/or Europe. Of greater importance is the candidate’s scholarly and pedagogical engagement with themes such as cross-oceanic trade, migration, cultural exchange, early modern imperial and colonial formations, the growth of cities, visual culture and its concern with histories of visuality and technology or the emergence of global capital. Courses taught may include advanced undergraduate seminars in their area of specialization, as well as Foundation courses.
