Evolve artistically and professionally—make an impact socially and culturally.

Think critically about your work and engage in contemporary discourse with high-profile faculty and visiting artist/scholars through Lesley University’s interdisciplinary MFA programs.

Expand your creative process while developing a deeper knowledge of contemporary art dialogues and a broader network of art contacts. Design a studio/academic plan that’s specific to your professional aspirations. Gain a critical vocabulary, investigate traditional and new media, and take your work into the public realm.

For more than 100 years, Lesley University’s College of Art and Design has shaped the careers of professionals in the arts. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, our MFA in Photography program and our MFA in Visual Arts program emphasize traditional and experimental approaches within the study of art, photography, and critical studies.

MFA in Photography
Explore the historical, cultural, and contemporary nuances of photography and its relationships and integration to other media. Through rigorous study, enhance your understanding of photographic art traditions while developing the necessary tools and expertise to continuously flex, refine, and evolve.
Study full-time in Cambridge, Massachusetts with access to our state-of-the-art Lunder Arts Center facilities.

MFA in Visual Arts
Advised by faculty from diverse disciplines, craft a course of study that integrates creative work into your daily life. Sustain your studio practice in your local environment. Twice a year, assess your direction during ten-day residencies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. An immersion of critique, seminars, talks, and exhibitions, the residency experience is a catalyst for growth, reflection, and community.

In both programs, prepare to become the professional you want to be—not by following someone else’s approach, but by learning to see the meaning behind your work.
