Call for applications: Master of Arts

As a platform for cross-disciplinary artistic creation and awareness, ENSAPC strives to bring its students face-to-face with a complex world through the prism of a rigorous critical engagement. The pillars of the school’s project-based teaching model are student initiative and an experimental approach.

Students spend the two years of their Master of Arts program deepening their practice of art, pursuing ambitious individual projects, and completing a research project of international scope.

Instruction is delivered by a permanent faculty of 26 professionals widely recognized in their fields—artists, historians, sociologists, writers, curators, composers, critics, and performers—assisted by a guest faculty of a hundred accomplished specialists. To open the way to bold experimentation, instruction covers a wide spectrum of contemporary artistic practice—including drawing, painting, installation, sculpture, history of art, social science, critical theory, writing, performance, photography, dance, film, videography, and sound design.

Students’ autonomy is a defining feature of the curriculum. Students chart their own path by choosing their courses from a wide array of offerings, as spelled out in the ENSAPC student handbook. Those offerings include courses in theory, studio sessions, creative research workshops devoted to the exploration of artistic practice, cross-disciplinary research workshops and projects, demonstrative seminars, and discussions.

Much instruction takes the form of joint artistic projects undertaken in partnership with various national and international entities in the art world (museums, centers of art, foundations, dance collectives, theaters, and so on), as well as in the academic sphere (universities and research laboratories) and civil society (prisons, community groups, etc.).

The degree is awarded at the end of the second year of study upon the student’s successful defense of an art project and a thesis before a jury composed of five individuals from the international art world (including artists, exhibition curators, critics, and administrators of art institutions).

Application
The application form may be downloaded from the ENSAPC website until 5pm (Paris time) on February 9, 2018.

The deadline for submission of applications is February 16, 2018 (5pm, Paris time).

Interviews with the admission panel will take place on April 3–5, 2018. Candidates will be contacted in March to schedule an interview.

Conditions
–Candidates must hold a Bachelor-level degree (180 European credits or the equivalent).
–Applicants from non-francophone countries must be fluent in French and provide a report of their results on the TCF B2. The DELF B2 is also accepted.

Annual tuition is 433 EUR.
Registration fee for application is 37 EUR.

Admission process
In the course of a 15-minute interview—which may be conducted by videoconference (Skype)—applicants present their art work to a panel of three faculty members and explain their reasons for wishing to attend ENSAPC.

Applicants are notified of the admission decision by mail within about a month of the interview.

Campus France
