Canadian Animator Wins Prestigious Award

SHARK TALE Collaborator and Centennial College Graduate Receives 2004 Premiere’s Award

DECEMBER 2004 (Toronto) Digital Animation graduate and technical director for SHARK TALE, T.J. Galda, has been selected as one of five Ontario college graduates to receive a Premier’s Award for 2004.

Since graduating from The Centre for Creative Communications at Centennial College in 2000, T.J. has worked with several Canadian animation houses, including Nelvana, Canada’s largest animation production studio, and the prestigious soho vfx in Toronto.

DreamWorks, one of the world’s best-known animation studios, discovered the young animator and recruited him as technical director on 2004 hit, SHARK TALE, for which Galda gained media attention for the groundbreaking work.

“The school has a really good reputation,” Galda says of his time at the Centre for Creative Communications at Centennial College.

“A lot of people I met in the industry kept recommending Centennial to me as the place to go and learn about digital animation.”

The intensive 30-week program immerses students in every aspect of the profession, from story and character development, to 3-D modeling, animation, lighting and texturing for special effects.

Premier Dalton McGuinty will present the award, in the category of Recent Graduate, at a ceremony in February, 2005. Centennial College will also receive a $5,000 bursary in T.J.’s name.
