Columbia University School of the Arts Visual Arts Program, in association with the Fisher Landau Center for Art, presents the 2009 MFA Thesis Exhibition, encompassing work by the 26 artists who will graduate from the program this May.

The School of the Arts Visual Arts Program is centered on the concept that visual artists should engage in one vigorous interdisciplinary community where painters, printmakers, photographers, video artists, installation artists and sculptors interact freely. That philosophy is visible in the diverse range and style of work on view at this year’s thesis exhibition.

“A walk through the show is clear evidence that these 26 are ready for the next phase of their lives,” said Program Chair and Professor Gregory Amenoff. “They have read, listened, argued and learned; but most of all they have remained steadfast in their commitment to their own practice.”

“Emily Fisher Landau’s longtime support of emerging artists is reflected in her commitment to Columbia University’s MFA students,” said Carol Becker, Dean of Faculty at Columbia University School of the Arts. “This is the second year that the Fisher Landau Center for Art has partnered with the School of the Arts to host our MFA Thesis Exhibition.”

The artists in the show are Cara Siik Benedetto, Christian de Vietri, David Brooks, Davida Nemeroff, Dennis Santella, Douglas Boatwright, Einat Amir, Eric Palgon, Eric Ramos Guerrero, Erik Vysocan, Gabriel Martinez, Gilad Ratman, Ian Cheng, Jaqueline Cedar, Mary Simpson, Michael Berryhill, Mira Dancy, Natalie Beall, Paul Heyer, Per Billgren, Peter Mandradjieff, Rona Yefman, Samara Golden, Valerie Piraino, Virginia Poundstone, and Zoe Nelson.
