The Art and Art Education program of Columbia University Teachers College is now accepting applications to its Low-Residency INSTEP 2012 degree program. This Low-Residency program can be completed over three years and combines intensive five-week summer sessions with on-going independent work in students’ own communities and schools. The program honors and embraces the experiences of students seeking to maintain their working lives.

The on-campus Summer 2012 session will take place from July 5 through August 9. Housing and scholarship aid are available to qualified students.

As one of the five graduate degrees offered by the Art and Art Education program, this 34-credit Master of Arts program will provide in-service teachers the opportunity to gain their NYS professional certification while studying at one of the most prestigious graduate schools of education. Specially designed for teachers, artists, and arts professionals to gain additional experience in art and art education, it offers candidates the opportunity to explore intersections between practice and theory, art making and personal inquiry, and classroom experience and research practice. Coursework allows students to engage in conversations with fellow professionals, and represents a return to a supportive environment where ideas and issues about the art and craft of teaching can be explored freely and openly.

With New York City as the backdrop, this program takes advantage of many of the city’s cultural institutions and art events. Develop the skills you will need in art and art education to integrate your work in theory, practice, and studio, while enjoying our diverse student body and world-renowned faculty.
