Frans Masereel Centrum is a Flemish centre for Graphic Art founded in 1972. It offers residencies and a work place to graphic designers, artists and critics who want to work with intaglio, relief printing, screen print or lithography, or who want to investigate the relationship of graphics with other visual arts. The centre focuses mainly on creation rather than on reproduction. It is a platform for the public, the artist and his work. Frans Masereel Centrum also organizes different graphic projects like exhibitions, open portfolio sessions, print related presentations, etc. It wants to stimulate new graphic practices in contemporary arts.

General residency
(4–6 weeks)
Professional artists and graphic designers get the opportunity to work on a personal project within their artistic practice. Experience with the graphic medium is not required.

Essay residency
(one month)
Artists, critics and theorists write an essay about the graphic medium while residing in the Frans Masereel Centrum. They can use the library and workshop.

Research residency
(two months)
Researchers, artists and graphic designers work on their research of a technical aspect of the graphic medium. The variety of print techniques available at the centre makes it possible to do exhaustive and experimental research. A profound knowledge of the medium is required.

School residency
(1–2 weeks in February-March, application deadline each year in June)
Graduate art schools can apply to work on a print-related project.

Conditions
Residency at Frans Masereel Centrum includes use of the professional print workshop, technical advice and the use of workshop materials. For some digital prints, papers and specific inks, you will be charged with a small fee.

We also offer accommodation in a personal little house (with equipped kitchen, personal bathroom, etc) during your residency. There’s room for up to four people, so you are free to bring a partner, assistant, friend or family member. There is also a bike at your disposal.

For all these facilities, we charge a flat fee of 105 Euro (about 135 USD) per week per artist.

Application
Application deadline is February 1st 2014.
The following application deadlines are August 1st 2014 and February 1st 2015.
