During this year’s Dutch Design Week, from 18 to 26 October, Design Academy Eindhoven is presenting all graduation work in the White Lady building in Eindhoven.

This year’s graduates reach into multidisciplinary terrain with a host of politically and socially engaged projects. “The work is a bold vision of how design—after its era of pause and reflection—can grapple with some of the biggest issues facing individuals and society today,” says artistic director Thomas Widdershoven. Widdershoven together with Jan Konings curated the exhibition.

When Thomas Widdershoven and Jan Konings traipsed through the graduation projects of 2014 they landed inside the imaginations of a new generation of designers. There they sensed a tension between the critical pressure to be practical and the imaginative need to be magical. Out of this, Sense Nonsense was born—an exhibition inspired by the work of the graduates and extended to include both Dutch and international designers, artists, scientists and engineers whose work acts and reacts to this tension between sense and nonsense. Sense Nonsense can be seen during Dutch Design Week at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and includes work by current and former Design Academy Eindhoven graduates, and its networks.

“No Nonsense” evening program
Van Abbemuseum presents a special “No Nonsense” evening program every day from Monday, October 20, until Saturday, October 25. Visitors can join for a designed dinner by Annelies Hermsen from 19h, and, until 23h, lectures, tours and live music performances are scheduled. The exhibition Sense Nonsense will also be open at night; tours will be given every half hour.
