The Department of Fine Arts and Art History (FAAH) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a faculty position in Studio Arts at the level of Assistant Professor, which will commence in the academic year 2016–17.

The department seeks a practicing artist in the field of the reproducible image—namely, analog photography, digital photography and the moving image.

Candidates should show a strong record of exhibitions and artistic research that evidences an involvement with the debates of contemporary art and an understanding of varied artistic traditions.

Experience teaching at the college/university level is required. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the development of the program’s curriculum, teach courses at all levels of the three-year BA program, and work closely towards integrating the teaching curriculum with the AUB Art Galleries.

The appointment begins on August 15 and is for an initial period of four years. Although AUB does not offer tenure, an ongoing system of multi-year contract renewals (pending the meeting of academic criteria) is in place, allowing for continuous, long-term employment. Eligible applicants must hold an MFA or equivalent degree at the time of appointment. Successful applicants are expected to teach five courses per year and to actively participate in departmental activities and governance. The language of instruction at AUB is English.

Review of applications will begin on January 15 and will continue until the position is filled. Please note that initial interviews will take place by telephone, Skype and in person at the College Art Association conference in Washington, D.C.

Interested applicants should submit the following: (1) a letter of interest, (2) a Curriculum Vitae, (3) a statement of teaching philosophy, (4) an artist’s statement, (5) two sample syllabi, (6) 20 images of the applicant’s artwork, (7) 20 images of the applicant’s students’ artwork and (8) the applicant’s website address (if available) to:
