Daniela Bleichmar is Associate Professor of Art History and History at the University of Southern California. Her research and teaching address the history of science and visual and material culture in the early modern Hispanic world, focusing on knowledge production, cultural contact and exchange, collecting and display, prints and books, and travel. She has received fellowships from the Mellon Foundation and the Getty Foundation and Research Institute and is the author of the prize-winning book Visible Empire: Botanical Expeditions and Visual Culture in the Hispanic Enlightenment (2012) and co-editor of Objects in Motion in the Early Modern World (2015), Collecting Across Cultures: Material Exchanges in the Early Modern Atlantic World (2011) and Science in the Spanish and Portuguese Empires, 1500–1800 (2009). She is currently working on the book The Itinerant Lives of Painted Books: Mexican Codices and Transatlantic Knowledge in the Early Modern World and on an exhibition at the Huntington Art Collections entitled Images of Latin American Nature from Columbus to Darwin.

Daniela Bleichmar is a guest scholar of the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Visiting Artists and Critics program. The program invites key figures to Hunter College to address topics in art and scholarship through talks with students and the New York community. In addition to this forum, Cisneros Visiting Artists and Critics conduct studio visits and seminar discussions with Hunter MFA and MA students during their residency.
