Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce its participation in the XXI international exhibition of the Triennale di Milano this spring and summer.

An international showcase for art, design, architecture, film and fashion, the Triennale is returning after a 20-year absence exploring “Innovation and 21st Century Design” as this year’s theme. A leader in art and design innovation, Emily Carr University (ECU) has been invited to represent Canada and British Columbia at the Triennale as part of the “New Crafts” pavilion.

Design and Dynamic Media Faculty member Keith Doyle, who is co-director of ECU’s Material Matters Research Centre is leading Liminal Labs: A Networked Studio Experiment, at the Triennale. Together with Emily Carr students, research and faculty teams, the University will host a series of events, courses, and participatory workshops geared towards a greater understanding of networked creative collaboration. ECU’s exhibition will be a space that will challenge visitors to participate in an experiment in how we collaborate to not only think, but also make.

The Liminal Lab exhibition will showcase the ground-breaking work being created by Emily Carr University and its Research Centres: Material Matters, Living Labs, the Stereoscopic 3D Centre and the Studio for Critical Making” says Doyle. “This opportunity will provide a global platform to showcase our work and engage with others as we explore new ways and ideas on design and making.”

The only other Canadian University exhibiting at the Triennale along with Emily Carr will be the University of Montreal.

Emily Carr University’s selection in the Triennale is yet another example of recent accolades and achievements for the University recognizing Emily Carr’s impact as an international leader in the fields of art, design, media education and research.
