Princeton University’s Program in Visual Arts, under the aegis of the Lewis Center for the Arts, is seeking applicants for a film and/or video-maker to teach undergraduate-level courses in film and video production effective September 1, 2017.
The Program invites applications from film and video-makers fully conversant with the workflow in digital media (currently all courses are taught with HD equipment). The candidate must have at least three years full time undergraduate teaching experience, a familiarity with a wide range of artistic concepts and methods, and a demonstrated record of creative work as evidenced by screenings in cinema houses, festivals, museums, television, or other related venues.
The candidate should have a demonstrated ability and commitment to engage productively with students at all skill levels and an eagerness to foster a vital role for film production within the context of a liberal arts university. The candidate must be able to teach introductory to advanced production classes and storytelling processes in narrative and documentary filmmaking.
The successful candidate will teach two classes per semester. S/he will work with the Director of the Visual Arts Program on all aspects of the study of undergraduate film and video production in relation to studio art, photography, graphic design, media, and the scientific and the humanistic studies at Princeton. Duties will include space and lab planning; advising junior and senior independent film projects; and the mentoring of other students interested in the visual arts. The candidate will join an established interdisciplinary art center whose faculty work broadly to encourage the creativity and growth of undergraduate students. Essential qualifications
–A film or video-maker with an MFA or equivalent in Film/Video/HD Digital/New Media from an accredited college or university.
–At least three years full time teaching university-level undergraduate film, HD digital and/or new media production courses.
–The ideal candidate is an active independent film or video-maker with a solid track record of public screenings of their work.
