The Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation has opened mentor and mentee applications for its 2017 Mentorship Program. The Program is available to curators that work directly with, collaborate with, or oversee contemporary art, architecture, design or decorative arts within the purview of curatorial work and expertise.

Supported in part by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation and the AAMC President’s Circle, the Program helps to fulfill a key aspect of AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s mission to provide avenues for professional support and advancement to curators at all stages of their careers. Launched in 2012, the Program has supported over 20 mentoring pairs across the country, from all scales of institutions, areas of expertise, and field of focus. Applications for the 2017 class of mentors and mentees are due to AAMC no later than January 11, 2017, and more information about the application may be found on AAMC’s website here.

The 12-month Program pairs established curators with emerging curators based on a range of criteria, including field and discipline focus, professional interests, institutional background and stated advancement goals. Elements of the program include an appointed liaison from AAMC’s Career Support Committee, Program-specific webinars for both mentors and mentees, travel funding towards in-person meetings, an annual Alumni Reception held during AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s Annual Conference & Meeting, access to a Program alumni chat room, and more. By providing both a structured platform for developing goals and benchmarks for advancement, and through encouraging a close rapport with their pairing, the Program provides the basis for lasting professional relationships and individual growth.
