The Advanced Painting Intensive mentors a group of up to 12 students through individual and group critique, technical tutorials, exposure to the New York gallery and museum worlds, and lectures and critiques by nationally known visiting artists. The six-week, six-credit workshop is based on the elements and structure of Columbia’s MFA degree program and is tailored to those who are interested in challenging and advancing their work in an immersive and nurturing environment. Additionally, this workshop is geared to those who aim to develop both an outstanding visual portfolio and written statement appropriate for applications to MFA programs. Numerous participants have entered prestigious MFA programs after taking part in the Advanced Painting Intensive.

Columbia is also offering a Photography Intensive and other courses in the Visual Arts. Please visit the Columbia Summer Arts website to find out more about all our offerings. Email inquiries to [email protected].

If you are interested in pursuing an MFA in Film, Theatre, Visual Arts or Writing, or the MA in Film Studies, visit the Columbia University School of the Arts’ Admissions page; or write to [email protected].
