The Program in Art and Art Education in the Department of the Arts and Humanities is seeking a highly qualified and experienced artist/teacher/scholar with research interests in teacher education and leadership in the visual arts. The candidate will be expected to enhance work already underway with partner schools, museums and community groups, and develop innovative research in both theory and practice that offers guidance for policy decisions both within and outside the discipline. An interest in or experience of community and international education would be a plus.

The individual chosen for this position will be expected to work at both the masters and doctoral levels in the program; work cross departmentally with colleagues in other arts and humanities disciplines and work across the college with other departments.

Responsibilities: Teach graduate level courses in art teacher education, curriculum development and clinical practices at the elementary and secondary levels, as this also involves museums and community settings. Conduct research into the cultural conditions and practices shaping school/community-based art education with special reference to the empowerment of underserved groups; provide leadership in sustaining collaborative projects with educational and cultural institutions both locally and overseas.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate; evidence of superior scholarship in teacher education and continuing artistic accomplishment; recommended experience of three to five years of successful teaching experience at elementary and/or secondary. Evidence of a broad concern with teaching and learning in the arts as these are shaped by socio-cultural, technological, and diversity issues.

To apply: Review of applications will begin upon receipt of materials and continue until the search is successfully concluded.  Please send a letter of application indicating how you would anticipate fulfilling the responsibilities above. Include a CV, copies of relevant publications, a portfolio of personal/student work, and names of references to:
