Oregon College of Art and Craft invites applications for the position of Dean, the chief academic officer of the College. The Dean provides academic leadership and maintains constructive connections among administration, faculty, staff and students. Working collaboratively with faculty to assure a high-quality educational experience, the Dean leads the campus community in envisioning and enhancing the institutional academic mission while ensuring excellence, stability, and balance between institutional size and scope of a mentor-based learning environment. Having an astute awareness of trends and changes in higher education and the art and craft fields, the Dean works closely with the College President on positioning the College at the forefront of programmatic development and planning, policy formulation, and evaluation.
The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in an area that is compatible with, and enhances the philosophy and areas of study at Oregon College of Art and Craft; possess significant experience in academic administration, including innovative and institutionally appropriate programmatic development, management of multiple divisions and personnel, effective strategic institutional planning, creation and management of complex budgets and enjoy working in an intense and supportive environment and recognize the essential value of the college community, culture, mission, and values.
Candidates should possess a positive, proactive and collaborative approach to serving the College’s constituencies in pursuit of fulfilling the College’s mission; have a deep understanding of the role of making in the context of art, craft and contemporary society, and relevant experience to excel in academic administration in an art college setting. Demonstrated professional accomplishment and recognition in a sustained studio practice or studio related practice is also required.
