College Art Association Receives $1 Million Gift to Fund Travel for Art History Faculty and Students

NEW YORK—The College Art Association announced Wednesday, August 8 that it has received a $1 million gift from an anonymous donor to establish the Fund for Travel to Special Exhibitions. The donation will support art history faculty and students in visiting special exhibitions related to coursework. Awards of up to $10,000 will be administered and juried by the College Art Association on a per project basis.

“This incredibly generous gift will not only support art history scholars and students for years to come, it is a powerful message to the visual arts field that their work is as important as ever,” said CAA executive director Hunter O’Hanian. “The new fun also reinforces CAA as the preeminent organization supporting and advancing professionals in the visual arts and design.”

The first of its kind, the Fund for Travel to Special Exhibitions will support travel to exhibitions in the United States and abroad to broaden access to original works of art. Funds will be made available to faculty and students in any art history specialty. Lodging and museum admission will be supported as well. Applications for travel awards will open in fall 2018.
