Braunschweig University of Art (HBK Braunschweig) is thrilled to announce its annual diploma exhibitions, presenting the work of over forty graduates. The exhibition is structured according to an open format which allows the students creative freedom to present their projects.

Following a year of social isolation and physical distancing, the exhibition shows an attempt to reflect on our position of being-in-the-world. As a means of engaging with the global state of contemporary art and at the same time being grounded on a personal level, these projects signify a wave of transition: one to be understood as a means of change and osmosis. The graduates themselves, who close this first significant chapter in their practice and open themselves up to a new one. An evocative form of returning, not in ways of “normality,” to different sensibilities and appreciation gradually makes an appearance through these works.

The individual projects span a broad net of media and materials showcasing the graduates’ diverse approach and ways of working.

The Diploma in Fine Art at Braunschweig University of Art (HBK Braunschweig) degree program is the best possible choice for students looking to develop as artists in their own right. The program offers a space for personal development, based on an intensive exchange between teachers and students. Students work freely and as far as possible independently in one of eighteen specialized classes that together offer the whole spectrum of fine art and related forms of artistic expression.

Regular plenary sessions are held in which students present and discuss the results of their work in a group setting. This group work is complemented by in-depth feedback sessions with teaching staff. The HBK Braunschweig’s numerous, well-equipped workshops offer the optimal setting for the development of the students’ art practices, which are supported by additional opportunities for learning such as study trips, visits to exhibitions, lectures and class-based projects. Students can also take part in seminars
