Illingworth Kerr Gallery, Alberta College of Art + Design

The Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) is a world-class exhibition space and flexible platform for critical enquiry and theoretical debate with a focus on visual culture. The IKG is a nationally recognized exhibition space and cultural institution, showing the work of international artists and designers year round. Work shown first at the IKG has gone on to the Venice Biennale and the MOMA in New York. With such an internationally renowned gallery right on campus, ACAD students experience some of the most exciting art in the world. The IKG has exhibited contemporary visual art for over 50 years, and is the longest-running international art program in Calgary. The yearly programme of exhibitions is accompanied by a varied and tailor-made offering of public events. These include workshops, artist talks, conferences and symposia, screenings, mentorship and internships and live performances.

As part of ACAD, the IKG fosters a vibrant culture of art and design in Alberta by providing context for viewing and discussion of new and recent works in all media. The IKG is comprised of two connected galleries measuring a total of 4,000 square feet, situated in the heart of the campus. Having access to such a large and established gallery space allows for large international exhibitions that may not be appropriate for other galleries in the city.
