In his introduction to this remarkably apposite conference, organized with Laurie Palmer, T. J. Demos outlines the stakes: the structural impoverishment and gross inequality underlying the incomprehensible, unstoppable mining of everything of any value to anyone, and the consequential general indifference this inspires. While we were busy with immaterial labor, the material exploitation of the planet and its inhabitants expanded unchecked and became the largest struggle of our future.
