If you would like to complete your training with a unique two-year course in contact with some of today’s greatest artists, with access to professional equipments, a production budget and a wide multidisciplinarity, Le Fresnoy is waiting for you.

Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains is: A unique school attracting students from all over the world. An accessible space open to everyone (with exhibitions, cinema, cultural events), a place for creation and innovation. A place for exchange with the most prestigious regional, national and international institutions.

Two-year course
First year devoted to the production of works using the techniques and media of cinema, photography and video as well as sound and music. Cinema remains an important practical and theoretical part of the learning process at Le Fresnoy, which draws on an extensively celebrated cinephile culture. The cinematic works made by Le Fresnoy students are noteworthy for their experimental dimension. Photography, too, remains an important means of expression at the school.

Second year dedicated to the extensive territories of digital art and new creative technologies. Teaching at Le Fresnoy is based on the premise of graduating to the production of full-scale, professional standard works. The school offers all the professional tools needed to make audiovisual and digital art.

Candidate selection: free / Studies fees: 760 EUR per year / Application deadline: Wednesday March 22, 3pm (Paris time) / Information and tour: Wednesday February 15, 2pm. Application form.

Le Fresnoy is a postgraduate art school, an art centre and an audiovisual and digital research hub. Its aim is to enable young artists to produce works using professional standard equipment under the direction of established artists. The theoretical and practical work embraces all audiovisual languages, from electronic and traditional media (photography, cinema, video) to digital technology and other state of the art media developments.

The projects developed by students are directed by invited artists/teachers who, in the course of their pedagogical residency, will produce a personal project with the possible assistance of students. The artists who have acted as visiting teachers at Le Fresnoy are: Jean-Luc Godard, Miguel Gomes, Bruno Dumont, Mathieu Amalric, Claire Denis, Joan Fontcuberta, Pascal Convert, Ryoji Ikeda, Christian Rizzo, Cyril Teste, João Pedro Rodrigues, Caroline Champetier, Patrick Jouin, Béla Tarr, Manon De Boer, Matías Piñeiro, Yannick Haenel, Laure Prouvost, Dora García, Athiná-Rachél Tsangári, Wang Bing, Art Orienté Objet, Edith Dekyndt, Emanuele Coccia, Sabrina Ratté, Justine Emard, Patrick Chiha, Guy Casiers, Viviane Perelmuter, Julien Prévieux, Cécile B. Ewans, Basma al-Sherif, …

The work of production is complemented by an ambitious artistic programme. This includes various exhibitions and events which explore all aspects of creativity, in particular “Panorama”, when all the works produced at Le Fresnoy are presented under the auspices of a guest curator every year.
