Position description
The Department of Visual Arts invites applications from practicing artists well-versed in contemporary issues of painting to join the faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor on the tenure track and will participate with other DOVA faculty in curriculum development, academic advising of students in a variety of media, and other committee work. The expected start date of the position is July 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The selected candidate will join a department whose faculty are engaged in active careers of national and international scope. The department emphasizes engagement with work that extends beyond one’s own and participation in discussion with faculty within and beyond the visual arts to build collaborative conversations within the intellectual culture of the University.

All faculty in the department work with a range of undergraduate and graduate students, from the completely inexperienced in our core courses, to advising advanced students working across media. Courses may include an introductory class with a focus on technique, to more advanced conceptually- and philosophically-inclined topics.

All University departments and institutes are charged with building a faculty from a diversity of backgrounds and with diverse viewpoints, to cultivating an inclusive community that values freedom of expression, and to welcoming and supporting all their members.
